Library
Our split level library is located immediately next to the Reception, and is staffed by a dedicated Librarian. The library is open from 8.30am until 4.30pm Monday – Thursday, and 4pm Friday.
Resources
We currently have more than 7,000 fiction and over 3,000 non-fiction titles in stock, suitable for all reading abilities and ages, all of which may be borrowed by staff and pupils. Pupils may borrow up to 3 books at a time, for a period of three weeks. These may also be renewed for up to three times. A selection of magazines and newspapers is available to read in the library.
There are 5 computers and 25 laptops which may be booked for lessons or used at free times by pupils. An interactive whiteboard is available for teaching and learning purposes.
We have recently updated our library hosting system to Accessit which enables students to view and reserve library stock, write reviews, search for authors and can be accessed from home on your mobile phone or tablet. A search of Accessit can also provide access to other databases and websites when carrying out research for school projects and NEAs.
You can access Access IT, our library online, here.
Activities
All classes in years 7 – 9 have one English lesson in the library per fortnight with an emphasis on encouraging reading for pleasure amongst students.
In addition, the library is well-used both during lesson time for research and computer-based lessons, and in free time for homework, research and reading.
We run a fortnightly Book Club and weekly sessions of our Poetry by Heart Club at lunchtimes. All are welcome to join us.
Staff
The librarian is on duty at all times during opening hours to ensure the smooth running of the library at the peak times of morning and lunch breaks from lessons.
