Bramley Lakes 2009On Monday morning half of Year 8 turned up on the coaches at Bramely Lakes. They quickly set up the tents, had a tour and were ready for their first activity. A total of eight daytime activities were on offer…….for Rafting pupils had to build a raft as a team and then race and bounce the rafts around the lake. It was then off to the assault course for scrambling through and swinging over muddy water. Climbing and Zip Wire was challenging for some, despite this most got to the top and most went down the Zip Wire, although there was lots of screaming! Camp Craft had many team work activities, a cross over task, a catapult task (Marina caught 20 sponges on her own!) and then ‘Man Hunt’ in the woods. Some serious ‘Cammoing-up’ went on! In Archery people enjoyed the games that were played and the personal challenge of getting better in the session (Ella was a particular sharp shooter). The High Wires were again difficult, although lots of teams did make the human flower at the top of the platform. The Low Ropes involved team work to find and then navigate the route (Macauley was a great leader on this task), then on to the tricky border crossing. On the Abseil tower most got down (Peter in only 3 bounces!) and with the Canoeing everyone enjoyed lots of games, paddling and getting wet (yes, the water was wet Clara!). The week was literally lit up by a fantastic storm on the Monday evening, which led to hasty retreat off the climbing tower and the postponement of the Egg Race; although a great quiz was sorted which revealed the longest muscle in the body that is connected at only one end! The other evening activities were the Egg Race which was thoroughly loved by both groups, although a couple of catchers did get wet! One group had the chance to perform by the camp fire, the highlight being Elizabeth’s “Eak, Eak” and Sam’s impression of the egg killing Mr Miller. Pupil comments were mostly “This has been the best few days”, one student even revealed this was the best week of his life! |
