Make Poverty History

Global Action Group: Make Poverty History

As a member of the Global Action Group we together planned an event for the 1st July, White band Day. It included the idea of various celebrities clicking every 3 seconds. This indicates that a child dies every 3 second because of poverty somewhere in the world.

All the pupils that volunteered (not just GAG members but also members of International Club) organized a drama. We sat in a circle and clicked in time with the school Samba band every 3 seconds; every click a child would die and one of our pupils either knelt or lay on the ground 'dead'.

We had the samba band to play a couple of pieces and to keep us all in time. Students could buy their own white band which we'd ordered in from Traidcraft. We had most of the school crowding round and even the BBC was here. BBC Look East filmed us live on their lunchtime programme and we were also featured in their evening programme.

Everyone involved had a fantastic time, and suitable awareness was raised. Well worth it!
