Exam Results Day 2007

GCSE Results Day 2007

Thursday 23rd August 2007 … the day had finally arrived … if last year’s simulation results day was Riddick Bowe then this was more Evander Holyfield … the real deal … GCSE results were in!

Whilst Mr. O’Shea was busily assembling the paperwork Rob had arrived over an hour early in the torrential summer rain to demonstrate his keenness. Mossy, Scott and Ciaran, on the other hand, calmly ambled in fashionably late, fooling nobody. Such pre-match nerves were understandable though as this was to be the culmination of five years of hard work (and a fair amount of fun too I should hope). Poor Jess had gotten herself completely drenched whilst Ruth had to endure the inconvenience of no longer basking in the French sunshine to be here! It’s a tough life …

When the doors swung open therefore it was with some trepidation that students stepped forward to pick up their results from helping hands Mr. Silcox, Mrs. Todd, Miss. Rust, and Mr. Guiney. Mrs. Hunt kindly handed out Prom Photographs at the door. As if the occasion wasn’t stressful enough regional TV had been called in with recording equipment to tape each agonising step towards the results desk! Eeeek! Here’s hoping you got spotted Steph and that you get your big break!

The agony for most was short-lived and five years of hard work was suddenly aired through a series of “woohs” “yays” “mmms” and “aaahs” as mums and dads were phoned before students milled around to share their success with anyone who would listen whilst jumping up and down (not easy to do simultaneously as Frankie and um, {I think her name is} ‘Bradders’, proved: although Carmel just managed it in part due to her dance background and capacity to waffle on!). Clearly Ms. Philpott’s ‘PET’ day had its desired effect!

A special word of congratulations to Abby, David, Michael and Ben for their sensational results.

In sum 63% of students achieved 5 grades A* - C which represents the hard work of very supportive parents, caring teachers, but most notably of the commitment and dedication of the Class of 2007 themselves.

Well, I trust fingernails Dereham-wide can resume their usual growth patterns now that results are in. Well done one and all. I trust you will all go on to great things whatever your results. Remember: think big and aim high.

From Mr. Guiney and all the staff at Neatherd.
