Your image should reveal a backdrop of gas and dust clouds.    Near the centre you should see a collection of bright stars.  There are four particularly bright ones called the trapezium. This is because they are roughly in the shape of a trapezium. (If you are not sure what a Trapezium looks like try doing a Google image search for a picture of one).   There should be a speckling of small red points throughout the nebula.   You should also see many small blobs.   Some of these have a bright head and a darker tail pointing way from the trapezium.    There are also a few black specks.

What could explain these strange features?

We really need to see inside those blobs and into the dust and gas backdrop.
