Space Observatories in School has been designed to cover aspects of the UK National Curriculum in Science and Maths.    Many challenges include resources to allow teachers to use them in lessons.   Here we include extra  resources which can be used in conjunction with challenges or as stand alone.

Imaging the Helix

Use an image combining program to create a picture of a planetary nebula.   This can be used to demonstrate how full colour astronomical images are created from monochrome filtered exposures.

Magnetic Sun in 3D

You can show the magnetic field around a small magnet with iron filings and a piece of paper. The Sun creates enormous magnetic field that look just like those except the loops of field lines can dwarf a planet. This challenge gives you the chance to create your own 3D images of the Sun's magnetic field.
