Thousands of scientists all over the World use SOHO observations to research the science of the Sun.   However the central team for ESA and NASA are to be found at Goddard Space Flight Centre.   The centre for science operations is the Experimenters' Operations Facility (EOF) and is across the hall from the Flight Operations Team (FOT) room in building 3 at GSFC.

Here, around a central meeting room, are the small offices of each of the instruments.   From these rooms, experimenters send commands to their instruments which are routed by the FOT to the Deep Space Network antennae an out to SOHO.

Each morning the principle scientists meet and plan the days observing.   Unlike most celestial objects, the unpredictable activity of the Sun means that what the instruments concentrate on depends on current activity.

Most of the SOHO scientists have their own office space and computer workstations in the basement of a building 1km away.   It seems a bit ironic that the largest collection of solar scientists in the World reside in a sunless basement!
