Anti Bullying Assemblies

To highlight National Anti-Bullying Week (19th-23rd November 2007) squad members as well as members of Miss. Dawson’s Year 8 drama group delivered some incredible assemblies to all year groups at Neatherd. The assemblies took the form a theatrical production and explained some of the causes and effects of bullying – with a very good impression of a certain Year Leader... ahem! Most importantly though, it showed students some of the things they can do if they are being bullied. If you see someone being bullied or you are being bullied yourself here are the Anti-Bullying Squad’s top tips...

Do

  • Tell your form tutor, teacher, Mrs. Voyce, or especially your Year Leader immediately, or leave a comment in the ‘bully box’ which is in the library. We will make sure it stops – this may mean giving out punishments and inviting the family of the person doing the bullying into school to sort it out.
  • Tell your parents/carer or someone you trust.
  • Ignore the bully where possible and just smile. If they think you don’t care they will soon get bored. Make sure you do point one as well though!
  • Phone Childline on 0800 11 11 if you are being bullied and want to talk about it to someone else as well.

Don't

  • Lash out at the bully even if you feel like it. This will only get you into trouble as well, and may even make the bullying worse.
  • Keep it a secret. Most people have been bullied at some stage and your teachers and parents/carers will understand. You are not alone … honest!
  • Ignore someone else being bullied and think ‘at least its not me’ – make a stand and if you see something, say something.
  • Forget about bullying after Anti-Bullying Week. It goes on all year so you should keep an eye out for it at all times.
